at the 2001 Intel International Science and Engineering
Fair
The
winning projects from the Intel Northwest Science Expo attended
the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in
San Jose, CA May 7-11. The ISEF brings together over 1200
of the most talented students in science and engineering
from the US and over 40 countries for a week of competition
and fun activities.
These NWSE winners won the following awards:
Korri
Ayn Thiessen, Oregon Episcopal School, Portland. "The
Influence of Stress and Age on APE Neuro-protein Correlated
Base Excision DNA Repair"
2nd
place award of $1500 in the Gerontology category
Honorable
Mention - American Psychological Association
US
Army award for Excellence in Science and Engineering - $3000,
certificate of achievement
and a gold medallion
US
Navy and Marine Corps $8000 Scholarship
Natalie
Muren, McNary High School, Salem. "Genetic Diversity
in Ecologically Distinct Populations of Chemoautotrophic
Bacteria"
2nd
place award of $1500 in the Environmental Sciences category
