Awards Won by NWSE Students
at the 2001 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair

The winning projects from the Intel Northwest Science Expo attended the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in San Jose, CA May 7-11. The ISEF brings together over 1200 of the most talented students in science and engineering from the US and over 40 countries for a week of competition and fun activities.
These NWSE winners won the following awards:

Korri Ayn Thiessen, Oregon Episcopal School, Portland. "The Influence of Stress and Age on APE Neuro-protein Correlated Base Excision DNA Repair"
          2nd place award of $1500 in the Gerontology category
          Honorable Mention - American Psychological Association
          US Army award for Excellence in Science and Engineering - $3000, certificate of
              achievement and a gold medallion
          US Navy and Marine Corps $8000 Scholarship

Natalie Muren, McNary High School, Salem. "Genetic Diversity in Ecologically Distinct Populations of Chemoautotrophic Bacteria"
          2nd place award of $1500 in the Environmental Sciences category
