2012 Intel Schools of Distinction Awards
Submitted by Stephanie on Thu, 02/02/2012 - 10:13amEvery year, Intel honors U.S. schools that implement innovative, replicable programs that inspire their students and lead to a positive educational outcomes in the areas of math and science. Schools who participate in the Intel NWSE are a perfect fit for this award. I encourage you to enter the 2012 Intel Schools of Distinction Awards. Your school could win up to $25,000 cash grant from the Intel Foundation and more than $100,000 in products and services from program award sponsors. Six winners will be selected – two from each grade range (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12) – in each of the two categories of math and science. Don’t miss this opportunity to apply - the application deadline is Feb. 23, 2012.
Intel NWSE Middle School Registration deadlines
Submitted by Stephanie on Thu, 01/26/2012 - 12:58pmThe first registration deadline for Intel NWSE is Wednesday February 1st. Have your paperwork postmarked by that date to receive $5 registration per project.
Fees increase by $5 each week. The last day paperwork can be postmarked or hand delivered is Wednesday February 22nd.
All projects must also be registered online. Please include gender and ethnicity information on each student, it is needed for our grant reports.
Set-up for middle school projects is Thursday March 22nd from 5-9pm, students do not need to be present. The fair is Friday March 23rd, judging starts at 10am the award ceremony should end by 5:15pm.
High school projects must finish in the top third at their regional fair to be advanced to Intel NWSE. Contact your regional fair director about deadlines.
Google Science Fair Returns

The Google Science Fair is an international competition which encourages students between the ages of 13 to 18 to be curious, ask questions, and perform science experiments to answer those questions. In partnership with CERN, National Geographic, LEGO and Scientific American, Google invites these students to post their science projects online so that they may compete for prizes, scholarships and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Interested students and teachers should visit http://www.google.com/sciencefair to register to be notified when the competition opens.
Last year a young lady from Oregon won and got to meet President Obama.
End of year donations

Judge Registration is Open
Submitted by Stephanie on Sun, 11/27/2011 - 1:01pmJudge registration is open for all Northwest Science Expo System fairs. Science fairs include the Intel Northwest Science Expo March 23rd and all its qualifying regional fairs. Just follow the frog in the upper right to register.
Summer Internship Opportunities-for next year's project

The next Information Session in Hillsboro is NEXT Tuesday, November 8th from 7-8pm in the media center at Glencoe High School.
The ASE Preliminary Application is OPEN! For 22 years, Saturday Academy's Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) program has matched over 3,000 high-achieving 9-11th grade students with scientists and engineers for 8-week summer internships in a professional scientific or engineering environment.
Judge Registration will open November 1st.
